technology1 Technological innovation advances the frontiers of the possible. GPE’s continuous coining technology, first introduced in 1982, did just that. At a stroke, it overturned the conventional wisdom. Since then, by applying our high-precision press technology, whose core technology is continuous coining, we have earned the confidence not only of the semiconductor industry, but also that of some of the foremost companies in the electrical appliance, office-automation, automotive and other industries in Japan. We have a track record of satisfying the diverse needs of various industries with sophisticated processing technology?technology that turns commonsense on its head, making possible the creation of high-precision parts that satisfy our customers’ most exacting requirements.
For example, conventional wisdom had it that it was impossible to make a hole in a metal sheet whose diameter was smaller than the thickness of the sheet. It was impossible until GPE succeeded in making a 0.5mm-diameter hole in a 1.5mm-thick metal sheet, that is, a hole whose diameter is one third of the sheet’s thickness. Another example of GPE’s innovation concerns the base for 5.6mm-diameter semiconductor laser pick-ups for CD players. Micron-order accuracy is required for surface mounting of the base. Our engineers solved the problem by developing ultrahigh-precision press processing with an accuracy of ±4 micron. Currently, we are readying a new press technology whose performance exceeds that of transfer-feed technology, which until now has been the ultimate press technology.
